Beihai Shipbuilding lays the keel for CMB's first 319,000-ton crude oil carrier
On March 18, the keel-laying ceremony for the first 319,000-ton Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) built by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding for CMB.TECH of Belgium was held in dock No. 1. This is 7 days ahead of the annual plan and marks the vessel's official entry into a new stage of assembly and construction, laying a solid foundation for subsequent construction. CMB.TECH Project Manager Kostas Bougiouris, ABS surveyor Vyom Sharma, and Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Assistant General Manager Yin Haijun, among other relevant personnel, witnessed this important milestone.
This keel-laying marks the completion of the first vessel in a series of VLCCs built in a cooperation between Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding and CMB.TECH, signifying Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding's full coverage across its three main vessel types: bulk carriers, container ships, and oil tankers. Previously, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding has delivered multiple 210,000-ton ammonia-ready bulk carriers to CMB.TECH, signifying a deepening cooperation between the two parties. This ammonia-ready VLCC project further enhances Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding's competitiveness in the global oil tanker market. Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding will continue to promote technological innovation and industrial upgrading to contribute to the "dual carbon" goals.
