The Wuhu shipyard has started construction on hull number 6, an 18,500-ton chemical tanker for a British shipowner.
On April 18, Wuhu Shipyard held a keel-laying ceremony for the 6th 18,500-ton chemical tanker built for the British ship owner UNION MARITIME LIMITED. Mr. Chen Zhaoxing and Mr. Fu Cai, ship owner's representatives, and Mr. Dong Guangping from Bureau Veritas (BV) attended the ceremony.
The 18,500-ton chemical tanker is one of a series of 10 vessels built by Wuhu Shipyard for the British ship owner. The 6th vessel, launched this time, is a perfect blend of technological innovation and environmental protection. It measures 149.80 meters in length, 22.80 meters in breadth, 12.70 meters in depth, has a deadweight tonnage of 18,500 tons, and a design draft of 8.50 meters. The design incorporates methanol dual-fuel readiness, an advanced single-screw propulsion system, 1C ice class strengthening, and a wind-assisted propulsion system (sails), promoting wind power to achieve energy saving and emission reduction.
In the beautiful month of April, a time for striving forward, Wuhu Shipyard's various base units are working hard to achieve their goals, accelerating efforts for the second quarter. Each workshop, following the company's production plan, is refining its production schedule, seizing key tasks, and solidifying responsibilities down to the L5 level. Simultaneously, further efforts are being made to explore internal potential, continuously striving for improvements in process optimization, cost control, and equipment innovation and transformation, achieving phased victories in the protracted battle for innovation and upgrading. This is pushing the company's overall technological level and capabilities to a new stage, with a firm commitment to winning the battle of "delivery".

It is understood that Union Maritime has ordered a total of 10 18,500-ton deadweight chemical tankers and 4 MR-type product tankers from Wuhu Shipyard. Data from Union Maritime's official website shows that the 10 chemical tankers are scheduled for delivery in 2025 (4 vessels), 2026 (5 vessels), and 2027 (1 vessel), while all 4 MR-type product tankers are planned for delivery in 2026.
