A Greek shipowner has ordered a bulk carrier for nearly 300 million!
Greek shipowner Meadway Bulkers has ordered a 64,000-dwt Ultramax bulk carrier from Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan.
Meadway Bulkers disclosed the order on its website. The website indicates that the new vessel will have an overall length of 199.9 meters, a width of 32.24 meters, a summer draft of 13.52 meters, a cargo hold capacity of 80,750 cubic meters, and is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2027.
The price of the new vessel has not been disclosed, but industry insiders revealed that the price of similar vessels from Japanese shipyards recently is approximately US$38 million (approximately RMB 274 million).
For reference, Clarksons' data shows that the price of a new 61,000-64,500 dwt Ultramax bulk carrier has fallen from US$35 million in the third quarter of last year to US$34 million, remaining flat compared to the same period last year.
It is understood that Imabari Shipbuilding's Ultramax bulk carrier design complies with the Common Structural Rules (CSR BC&OT), featuring large-opening cargo holds for easy loading and unloading. The deck is equipped with four cranes, allowing for cargo handling even in ports without cargo handling facilities.
In addition to grains and coal, this type of vessel can also transport high-density cargo such as iron ore and cement, as well as manufactured goods such as steel coils and long steel products. High propulsion performance is achieved through the use of energy-saving add-ons near the propeller, a high-efficiency propeller, and hull exterior painting to reduce frictional resistance with seawater. The onboard equipment complies with the provisions of the MARPOL Convention regarding air pollution prevention, and the ship's Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meets the Phase III requirements ahead of schedule.
It is understood that Meadway Bulkers is a professional dry bulk shipping company managing a highly efficient and modern fleet with an average vessel age of 5 years.
According to the official website data, Meadway Bulkers currently owns and operates 15 bulk carriers, with another 6 under construction. In addition to the latest order from Imabari Shipbuilding, 3 more 66,200-dwt Ultramax bulk carriers are being built at Zhoushan Changshi Shipbuilding, and 2 40,050-dwt handysize bulk carriers are being built at Namura Shipbuilding in Japan. All 5 vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2026.
