China's first multi-functional measure platform, "Increased Production No. 1," has completed its keel laying operation.
Recently, China's first offshore mobile multi-functional measure platform, "Production Increase No. 1," designed and built by CNOOC Energy Development Co., Ltd., successfully completed its keel laying operation in Qingdao, Shandong, marking a significant milestone in the platform's construction.
Keel laying is a landmark node in shipbuilding. Traditionally, it refers to the installation of the keel, the central longitudinal load-bearing structure at the bottom of the hull—like the "backbone" of a ship—onto the slipway. In modern shipbuilding, this term is extended to refer to the placement of the first section of the hull onto the assembly jig. The date of keel laying is considered the ship's "birthday".
Since the commencement of work in early April, "Production Increase No. 1" has started the construction of 23 sections, with two hull sections already completed. Faced with multiple challenges such as limited construction site space and continuous high temperatures, the project team innovatively adopted a "Party Building + Project" management model. Through joint party building activities with key stakeholders, the project team efficiently implemented the measures outlined in the QHSE joint construction commitment letter. Relying on the party building and joint construction mechanism, the project completed the node target 18 days ahead of the milestone plan, accumulating 80,616 safe man-hours, laying a solid foundation for subsequent construction work.
Currently, on-site personnel are working hard to advance operations such as material cutting, structural component manufacturing, sectional structural forming, and painting to ensure that the platform's main hull is formed on schedule.
"Production Increase No. 1" adopts internationally leading design concepts and integrates multiple innovative technologies. For the first time, a vertical multi-layer pile driving system is used, increasing the platform's towing efficiency by 15%. Simultaneously, a customized AI large model is introduced for local deployment. Utilizing digital twin technology, it dynamically senses and monitors personnel, equipment, energy consumption, and the production process comprehensively and around the clock, predicting potential risks in advance and enabling intelligent management.
As China's first mobile platform integrating functions such as heavy oil thermal recovery, fracturing, acidizing, and profile control, "Production Increase No. 1" is independently designed and built by CNOOC Energy Development. It is expected to be delivered in the first half of 2026 and will initially serve the Bohai Oilfield. After commissioning, the platform will not only support conventional offshore oilfield exploitation but also conduct mobile thermal injection, fracturing, acidizing, profile control, and heavy oil thermal recovery operations, effectively meeting the various enhanced oil recovery needs of offshore oilfields and playing a significant role in the later-stage development and exploitation of offshore oil and gas fields.
