The first batch of 5 ships ordered has been finalized! Inland green shipping accelerates again.
On September 1st, Shandong Xinneng Shipbuilding and Jining Tianhe Dahai Supply Chain Co., Ltd. officially signed a contract for the construction of 5 units of 90-meter LNG-powered container ships.
This is the first batch of orders from the previously agreed letter of intent for 29 ships between the two parties, marking a substantial progress from the intention negotiation stage to the signing of the first batch of construction contracts in their cooperation in the green inland waterway shipping sector, laying a solid foundation for subsequent large-scale cooperation.
The 90-meter LNG-powered ship is a benchmark product of Xinneng Shipbuilding, with a total length of 90 meters, a beam of 16.56 meters, a depth of 5.4 meters, a deadweight of nearly 5,000 tons, equipped with a 30 cubic meter LNG fuel tank, and a cruising range of 2,000 kilometers. It fully meets the needs of round-trip navigation along the entire Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal without the need for mid-route refueling, precisely fitting the requirements of long-distance inland waterway cargo transport.
In terms of environmental friendliness and operational efficiency, this type of ship has outstanding advantages. Compared to traditional fuel oil ships, its pollutant emissions are reduced by more than 90%, and carbon emissions are reduced by 15%, significantly reducing the impact on the inland waterway ecological environment; meanwhile, through streamlined hull design optimization, the ship's sailing resistance is reduced by 6%, and combined with an intelligent power control system, it further achieves an overall energy saving of 3%, highlighting the dual advantages of green environmental protection and operational efficiency.
Next, Xinneng Shipbuilding will leverage its professional technical team, advanced manufacturing processes, and production capacity advantages to fully promote contract fulfillment to ensure the high-quality delivery of these 5 ships on schedule. Subsequently, both parties will steadily advance the negotiation and implementation of the remaining 24 ships based on the earlier letter of intent for 29 ships, continuously injecting strong momentum into the low-carbon transformation of China's inland waterway shipping and the high-quality development of the water transport industry.
It is understood that Xinneng Shipbuilding and Jining Tianhe Dahai Supply Chain Company signed a letter of intent in June this year for the design and construction of 29 inland new energy intelligent transport ships. These 29 new ships include 10 units of 73-meter LNG-powered multi-purpose distribution ships, 10 units of 73-meter pure electric-powered multi-purpose distribution ships, 4 units of 73-meter methanol-powered multi-purpose distribution ships, and 5 units of 90-meter LNG-powered container transport ships.
According to the agreement, both parties will fully leverage their advantages in various fields, establish a strategic communication mechanism, and further deepen cooperation in shipbuilding, trade, logistics, supply chain technology services, and other areas.
Xinneng Shipbuilding is the nation's first domestic inland new energy ship manufacturing demonstration base project integrating R&D design and intelligent manufacturing. Established in May 2022, it mainly engages in new energy ship research, design, manufacturing, and modification. The company covers 1,757 acres with a total investment of about 5.03 billion yuan; it has the capacity to build 400 inland ships of 1,000–5,000 tons annually and repair or modify 100 ships, with annual sales revenue reaching 3.3 billion yuan. Construction started in October 2022, trial production began in October 2023, and it is scheduled to be completed and put into operation by August 2024. It now has the capability for large-scale mass production of 2,000–5,000 ton inland new energy ships.
In recent years, Xinneng Shipbuilding has adhered to the concept of "building green intelligent shipyards and manufacturing green intelligent ships," innovatively applying new technologies, new processes, new ship types, new standards, and new models to promote modular, standardized, and mass production of ships, building lightweight, green, and intelligent inland ships, leading the "digital and intelligent transformation" of inland ship manufacturing, accelerating the upgrade and iteration of inland ships, and striving to create a benchmark project for domestic inland new energy ship manufacturing.
