China Merchants Heavy Industry (Shenzhen) Sustainable Clean Energy Offshore Construction Vessel Commences Construction.
On the morning of November 28, the construction of Vessel No. 1—a 250-ton offshore construction vessel powered by sustainable clean energy—commissioned by Norwegian shipowner Olympic, was successfully launched at China Merchants Heavy Industry (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. Attending the launching ceremony were Glenn Erik Valø, Chief Commercial Officer of the shipowner; Per Kristian Furø, Sales Director of Kongsberg Design; Lu Yuntao, Site Manager of DNV Guangzhou Office; Xu Rong, General Manager of Mazhou Island Base; and representatives from various relevant parties. Yan Changqing, Deputy General Manager of Mazhou Island Base, presided over the ceremony.
Xu Rong stated that the Mazhou Island base will take this collaboration as an opportunity to seize the development opportunities in high-end offshore engineering equipment manufacturing, continuously enhance its design and construction capabilities, and actively integrate into the high-end segments of the global offshore engineering equipment industry chain. Xu Rong emphasized that the Mazhou Island base must always adhere to the principles of "safety, quality, and efficiency," be customer-value oriented, steadily advance lean shipbuilding practices, rigorously control quality and precision, and make every effort to ensure projects are delivered on time and with high quality. Together, we will strive to help the Mazhou Island base achieve new breakthroughs and demonstrate new accomplishments in its journey of "third entrepreneurship."
Glenn Erik Valø fully affirmed the professional competence demonstrated by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. during the project preparation phase, and expressed high appreciation for the existing excellent cooperation model between the two sides. He also expressed his hope that our side would continue to advance the project schedule in an orderly manner and ensure its smooth delivery.
Thore Veddegjerde, Project Director of the shipowner company, Xu Yongxi, Project Manager of Shenzhen Heavy Industry, and Lu Yuntao, Site Manager of DNV Guangzhou Branch, jointly signed the commencement certificate. Glenn Erik Valø and Xu Rong jointly unveiled the first cut steel plate and pressed the ignition button to start the cutting process.
The No. 1 250-ton offshore construction vessel for sustainable clean energy has a total length of 114.2 meters, a molded breadth of 23 meters, and a design draft of 6.2 meters. It is propelled by a hybrid power system combined with industry-leading rim-driven propulsion technology, and is equipped with energy storage batteries and a waste heat recovery steam generator. The vessel is primarily used for subsea engineering construction and support services for underwater robotic systems. Powered by sustainable clean energy, this vessel boasts the highest energy efficiency rating among similar ship types, and its operation will significantly reduce carbon emissions.
