South Japan Shipbuilding Delivers 52,000-DWT Product Oil Tanker
Recently, Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding announced the successful delivery of the 52,000-dwt product oil tanker “UM MINAMI,” built by its subsidiary, Nangoku Shipbuilding.
The new vessel has a total length of 184.94 meters, a beam of 32.20 meters, a molded depth of 19.10 meters, a deadweight capacity of 52,772 tons, and a gross tonnage of 30,591 tons. Its main engine is a 6S50ME-C10.6, with a cruising speed of approximately 14.5 knots. The vessel is classed by the Japanese Register of Shipping and flies the Panamanian flag.
The “UM MINAMI” is a dual-purpose product/chemical tanker capable of carrying chemicals of IMO Classes II and III. Each cargo hold is equipped with independent submersible pumps, enabling the simultaneous loading of up to six different types of cargo. In addition, the cargo holds feature a ribless structural design, which enhances cleaning efficiency inside the holds and reduces residual oil volume.
This vessel is equipped with advanced systems that comply with various environmental regulations, including the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) and the Ballast Water Management Convention, and it has already met the Stage III standards for the Ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). In addition, to further enhance environmental protection, the vessel is fitted with a ballast water treatment system and equipment that meets the NOx Tier III emission standards.
Excellent propulsion performance was achieved by employing energy-saving auxiliary devices positioned near the propeller, high-efficiency propellers, and hull outer plating coatings that reduce seawater friction resistance.
