Dalian COSCO KHI Shipbuilding’s 80,000-ton multi-purpose grain carrier returns triumphantly from its sea trial.
On March 8, the second 80,000-ton multi-purpose grain carrier, vessel N1258, built by Dalian COSCO KHI Shipbuilding for COSCO Shipping Development, successfully completed its sea trials and returned safely.
This trial voyage coincided with the Two Sessions nationwide. The project team meticulously refined the navigation plan and emergency response procedures in advance, strictly enforcing a 24-hour on-duty system. With the strong support and assistance of the maritime and traffic management authorities in Liaoning and Shandong, a comprehensive safety defense was firmly established. The project team, in collaboration with the production, technology, and quality departments, scientifically formulated the trial voyage outline, providing solid support throughout the entire testing process.
During the sea trial, the shipowner, classification society, and shipyard worked together to tackle challenges head-on, conducting item-by-item inspections of all systems—including the main engine, shaft generator, navigation equipment, and intelligent systems—where every single metric met the required standards.

This vessel is designed to meet the demands of grain transportation and multi‑cargo loading, featuring comprehensive upgrades to its intelligent systems, stowage planning, ventilation, energy efficiency, and security systems. It employs a low-resistance hull form and high‑efficiency propellers, delivering energy efficiency that surpasses the highest international standards. Equipped with SCR, a desulfurization tower, an inboard generator, and a shore power system, it meets stringent emission requirements, achieving near‑zero pollution while docked. With its strong specialization, broad cargo compatibility, excellent economic performance, and eco‑friendly design, this vessel represents a new generation of large, multipurpose ships independently developed in China.
