19 Vessels Worth Over RMB 300 Million: Guangxi’s First Batch of New-Energy Ships Signed for Construction

On March 22, Guiping Hongxin Shipbuilding and Repair Co., Ltd. held the “Smartly Harnessing New Energy, Co-Creating a Carbon-Neutral Future—Groundbreaking Ceremony for Green Intelligent Ships” event. At the ceremony, the company signed construction cooperation agreements with three enterprises—Qingyuan Lihang Transportation Co., Ltd., Guangdong Yizhilian Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., and Guangxi Jinmao Shipping & Transportation Co., Ltd.—for the build of a total of 19 new-energy vessels, marking the launch of a new chapter in Guiping’s green intelligent shipbuilding industry.

These 19 vessels comprise eight methanol-powered dual-purpose container–bulk carriers (Qingyuan Lihang), two plus seven all-electric bulk carriers for the Pinglu Canal (Guangdong Yizhilian), and two LNG-hybrid oil and chemical tankers (Guangxi Jinyuan)—all of which represent Guangxi’s first batch of new-energy vessels of their kind. Of these, the 12 vessels whose construction has been officially launched under contract involve a total investment of RMB 224 million, while the remaining seven vessels with letters of intent represent a total investment of RMB 112 million.

Guiping Hongxin Shipbuilding & Repair Co., Ltd. is the largest private shipbuilding enterprise in Guangxi, holding Class II, Category III qualifications for the production of standard steel vessels as well as for the dismantling of aging ships. The company boasts full-capacity production capabilities for steel, aluminum-alloy, and fiberglass vessels. Covering an area of 600 mu, the company integrates design, construction, dismantling, and sales, and operates 173 shipbuilding slipways.

In recent years, the company has actively responded to the national “dual carbon” strategy, seized the opportunities presented by the green transformation of inland waterway shipping, and maintained strong momentum in the manufacturing of new-energy vessels, thereby fully supporting the green and low-carbon development of the Xijiang Golden Waterway. In this process, the company has collaborated closely with upstream and downstream enterprises, including Zibo Diesel Engine Co., Ltd., to jointly promote the application of green and intelligent ship technologies.

According to available information, Guiping Hongxin Shipbuilding & Repair Co., Ltd. was established in 2009 with a registered capital of RMB 30 million. Hongxin Shipbuilding is the largest privately owned shipyard in Guiping City, covering an area of approximately 600 mu. It boasts over 800 meters of riverfront and wharfage, with workshop space exceeding 8,000 square meters. The open-air working area spans more than 200,000 square meters, featuring a total of 173 slipways capable of accommodating vessels ranging from 1,000 to 6,000 deadweight tons, as well as 50,000 square meters of supporting production facilities. The company’s annual production capacity includes over 200 steel cargo ships, 50 government service vessels and offshore engineering vessels, 20 luxury cruise ships (and yachts), and more than 100 vessel repairs.
