World-leading! The lead vessel of Jiangnan Shipyard’s 20,000-cubic-meter LNG bunkering ship has been launched on the slipway.
On September 28, the lead vessel (H2905) of the 20,000-cubic-meter LNG bunkering ship built by Jiangnan Shipyard for Shanghai SIPG Energy Service Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “SIPG Energy Service”) officially entered the outfitting phase on the slipway, with the launching ceremony held at the company’s heavy‑duty platform.
Yang Zhiyong, Vice President of Shanghai International Port Group; Shi Pingyang, Vice President of Shenneng Group; Guo Jianjun, Deputy General Manager of the Shanghai Branch of China Classification Society; Zhang Da, General Manager of Shanghai Port Energy; Shao Jun, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of Shenneng Group’s Nengchuang; Xi Jin, Director of Maritime Affairs at Shanghai Shuangxi; Lin Qingshan, Deputy General Manager of the company; Cai Qianya, Chief Technology Officer, and others attended the ceremony.
On June 18, 2025, at a pivotal moment when China’s “dual carbon” strategy and the development of the Shanghai International Shipping Center are gaining momentum, Jiangnan Shipyard and Shanghai Port Energy Services formally signed the contract for this vessel. Following the signing, Shanghai Port Energy Services, the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute, the China Classification Society, and Jiangnan Shipyard have worked closely together to steadily advance the project. The vessel commenced construction on March 16, 2026, and has now officially entered the outfitting phase on the slipway, marking a significant milestone in the successful progress of this world‑leading LNG bunkering vessel.

The vessel uses LNG boil-off gas as fuel and is equipped with a variable-frequency energy‑saving system, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 25%. Its NOx emissions meet Tier III standards, while SOx and PM emissions are virtually zero. Featuring an all‑azimuth electric propulsion system with two azimuth thrusters and a high‑power bow thruster, the ship can autonomously berth and unberth, perform zero‑turn maneuvers, and execute lateral transverse movements, significantly enhancing its operational flexibility in port and bunkering operations. Through a flexible combination of four systems—gas management, liquid‑tank pressure accumulation, a Gas Control Unit (GCU), and a reliquefaction unit—the vessel ensures the safe and efficient handling of LNG boil‑off gas, guaranteeing smooth and highly efficient bunkering. Additionally, it is fitted with an HD compressor, greatly improving its gas‑recovery capability and its ability to warm cargo tanks.
The vessel is equipped with the latest smart ship systems, enabling crew safety management, equipment health monitoring, intelligent cargo handling, and shore-based operations, while complying with the China Maritime Safety Administration’s newly issued “Technical Guidelines for Smart Ship Monitoring Systems 1.0.” It also meets CCS VIB1 vibration standards and is fitted with an onboard satellite TV reception system and a 4G/5G mobile signal amplification system, enhancing crew comfort.

The vessel will, with its exceptional maneuverability, intelligent design, and low‑carbon emissions profile, provide efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly clean‑energy bunkering solutions for international shipping, helping to optimize port service infrastructure, strengthen the comprehensive service capabilities of the international shipping hub, and make a significant contribution to the nation’s efforts to build a modern energy system that is clean, low‑carbon, safe, and efficient.
Jiangnan Shipyard has consistently placed green initiatives and innovation at the heart of its strategy, striving to deliver world-class shipping solutions to customers worldwide.
