First order of the year! Large ship marine engineering receives order for semi submersible heavy lift barge

On February 7, Norwegian offshore ship owner Boa Offshore announced that he had signed a 1+1 semi submersible heavy lift barge construction contract with Dalian Ship Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Big Ship Offshore Engineering).
These two new ships, BOABARGE 39 and BOABARGE 40, will be independently designed by Boa Offshore, with BOABARGE 39 expected to be delivered in the third quarter of 2026. This order marks an important step for the company in expanding its fleet to meet future market demand.
Boa Offshore introduced that the multifunctional design and unique features of this barge can support various operations in multiple industries and meet the highest industry standards. Its functionality makes it an ideal choice for loading and unloading and floating operations, heavy load transportation, dry dock, salvage operations, and retirement projects. The new ship will further consolidate the company's position in key industry sectors and increase its reputation as a reliable partner in complex vessels and offshore operations.
The newly designed barge has a load capacity of approximately 75000 tons, a length of 166 meters, a width of 73.38 meters, a depth of 9.15 meters, a diving draft of 22.5 meters, an ultimate deck strength of 35 tons/square meter, a ballast pump capacity of 20000 cubic meters/hour, and a hybrid power system including batteries/generators and shore power. It is equipped with four movable floating towers to enhance stability and flexibility.
Ole Bj ø rnevik, CEO of Boa Offshore, said, "We are pleased to collaborate with Big Ship Offshore to build the BOABARGE 39. This contract demonstrates our commitment to providing customers with the most advanced solutions, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and sustainable development in the maritime and offshore industries
Boa Offshore was founded in the 1970s and has now developed into a leading global offshore services company. It has a fleet of 35 tugs, factory ship and heavy lift barges, specializing in transport ships, drilling platforms, and subsea installation and salvage operations. The company's innovative design and diversified services reflect its commitment to pursuing excellence in the offshore industry.
It is understood that the predecessor of Dachuan Offshore Engineering is Dalian Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Group Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., which is affiliated to China Shipbuilding Group Dalian Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Group. Founded in September 2006, Dachuan Offshore Engineering was once one of the offshore shipyards with the longest history of construction, the richest experience, and the most completed products in China. It is an absolute leader in the field of jack up drilling platforms in China. It is also one of the first seven enterprises to be included in the white list of offshore enterprises in 2015.
However, due to the previous sluggish marine engineering market and the abandonment of ships by foreign buyers, the large ship marine engineering industry experienced a serious debt crisis and applied for bankruptcy reorganization by creditors in early 2019. In June 2021, the Dalian Intermediate People's Court ruled to approve the restructuring plan for large ship marine engineering and terminate the restructuring process for large ship marine engineering.
After completing the bankruptcy reorganization, Dalian Lingang Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. is currently the major shareholder of Dalian Shipyard, holding a 100% stake. According to the current shareholder situation, apart from the similarity of the company name, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group and China Shipbuilding Group have no actual relationship with Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group. In September 2023, Dalian Shipyard announced its name change from "Dalian Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Group Ocean Engineering Co., Ltd." to "Dalian Shipbuilding Ocean Engineering Co., Ltd." (referred to as "Dalian Shipyard").
Under the leadership of new shareholders and management, Da Ship Marine Engineering is committed to the vision of "building a leading domestic and world-class manufacturer and service provider of ships and marine engineering equipment", with the mission of "providing first-class ships and marine engineering equipment and contributing to international marine strategies", deeply cultivating the traditional oil and gas and dual carbon clean energy fields, and providing better services and products for domestic and foreign customers.
