HD Modern's batch of environmentally friendly ship technologies have been certified by the classification society

From September 17th to 20th, Gastech 2024, the world's largest oil and gas exhibition, will be held in Houston, USA. HD Hyundai (formerly Hyundai Heavy Industries Group) from South Korea, along with numerous subsidiaries, participated in the exhibition and showcased a new generation of environmentally friendly ships such as LNG carriers, FSRUs (Floating Storage and Regasification Units), and LCO2 carriers. They highlighted their technological capabilities in digital transformation and decarbonization of gas carriers. Many environmentally friendly ship technologies developed by the group have also obtained principle recognition (AIP) certificates issued by various classification societies at the exhibition.
Gastech 2024 has attracted over 800 companies from around the world, including shipbuilding, energy, and shipping industries, and is expected to attract more than 50000 visitors. HD Hyundai hopes to showcase its future ship technology research and development to the global industry by participating in this exhibition.
HD Modern Vice President Zheng Jixuan led employees in the fields of marketing, research and development, and engineering to participate in exhibition activities, and held talks with representatives from shipowners, classification societies, and other countries. While promoting HD Modern Environmental Protection Ship Technology, they also discussed the future development direction of the shipbuilding and shipping industry.
The comprehensive exhibition booth of HD Modern is jointly composed of its subsidiaries HD Korea Shipbuilding Ocean, HD Modern Heavy Industries, HD Modern Owari, HD Modern Sanhu, HD Modern Ocean Solutions, and HD Modern Electric, covering an area of 420 square meters. The booth focuses on showcasing HD Modern's environmentally friendly ship models such as the new generation of LNG carriers, FSRUs, and liquefied carbon dioxide carriers.
On the opening day of Gastech 2024, HD Modern held a technical seminar targeting shipowners, classification societies, and others, introducing the development trends of gas transport ships, the current status of electric propulsion systems, and the roadmap for digital transformation of ships, as well as HD Modern's technology development status and plans. On September 18th and 19th, in addition to face-to-face meetings with existing customers, HD Hyundai also held the "HD RECEPTION" event to fully exchange views with new customers who came to the group booth on HD Hyundai's future environmentally friendly ships.
During this exhibition, many environmentally friendly ship technologies developed by HD Modern obtained the principle recognition (AIP) certificate issued by various classification societies.
Among them, HD Modern's cloud based digital twin LNG transport ship virtual trial validation technology has obtained the AIP certificate issued by DNV classification society. This technology integrates the digital twin models of the main systems of LNG transport ships, such as the engine system, power system, and gas system, in the cloud to form the entire ship and objectively verify it through virtual sea trials.
The design and safety control solution for the unmanned engine compartment of the ammonia fuel powered ship developed by HD Modern has obtained the AIP certificate issued by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). This solution can further improve the safety of crew members.
A batch of environmentally friendly fuel refueling ships developed by HD Modern have also passed the basic certification of the classification society. Among them, the 23000 cubic meter ammonia refueling ship has obtained the AIP certificate issued by the Lloyd's Register (LR) in the UK, and the 18000 cubic meter LNG refueling ship has obtained the AIP certificate issued by the Korea Classification Society (KR).
In addition, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has signed a joint development agreement (MOU) with the Korea Classification Society for the ammonia fuel supply system, to collaborate on the development of more advanced ammonia fuel supply systems. According to the agreement, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is responsible for designing the main system configuration for the application of ammonia fuel on liquid ammonia transport ships, while the Korean Classification Society is responsible for conducting a hazard assessment of the ammonia fuel supply system and issuing an AIP certificate after verifying its stability,
HD Modern Heavy Industries' special affairs officer Zheng Zaijun said, "Ammonia, as a zero carbon fuel that can suppress greenhouse gas emissions, has attracted much attention in terms of economy and supply stability. Through this hazard assessment, the company will develop a higher-level ammonia fuel supply system to take the lead in achieving global carbon neutrality goals
Special Director Jin Yantai said, "This joint development project will become an important springboard for the commercialization of ship technology using ammonia fuel. KR will not only be committed to ammonia fuel power technology in the future, but will also continue to provide technical support for decarbonization response
