The latest statistical report released by Alphaliner shows that in 2019, the world's top liner companies will deliver a total of nearly one million TEU container ships. MSC will receive 20 newly built container ships with a total capacity of over 300,000 TEU, reaching 334,550 TEU. These include the first three in a series of 11 23,000TEU ultra-large container ships from Mediterranean Shipping, which will be the largest container ships in the world by then. The 11 VLCCs are currently being built by South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Samsung Heavy Industries. Alphaliner said the capacity gap between MSC and Maersk Line will be further narrowed after the delivery of these new ships.

COSCO SHIPPING Group will receive the second largest new container ship capacity in the world this year, with a total of 12 vessels and 180,970 TEU, most of which will be delivered in the first half of this year. This includes a series of six ultra-large container ships of 19,200 TEU to 21,200 TEU, which will increase the number of container ships above 18,000 TEU in the COSCO SHIPPING fleet to 28. After receiving these new ships, COSCO SHIPPING will further widen the distance with CMA CGM and secure the third place in the world.

According to Clarksons data, the six ultra-large container ships that COSCO Shipping Group is expected to receive this year include four 21,200TEU ultra-large container ships built by Jiangnan Changxing Heavy Industry, and one built by Nantong COSCO Shipping Kawasaki and Dalian COSCO Shipping Kawasaki. 19200TEU container ship. Alphaliner also said that after the acquisition of OOCL last year, COSCO Shipping will continue to maintain strong growth in 2019.

Evergreen Shipping ranks third in new capacity this year, and the number of new container ships received also exceeds double digits, including six 20,388TEU ultra-large container ships to be delivered by Imabari Shipbuilding. At the end of last year, Evergreen Shipping said that in 2019, the company will enter a new wave of new ship fleet deployment, with a total of 7 20000TEU and 5 2800TEU container ships delivered.

Maersk Line, the world's largest liner company, will only receive six new container ships this year, with a total new capacity of only 73,606 TEU. Maersk Line has previously announced that it will not expand its order book in large-scale newbuilding projects.

Yang Ming, ONE, CMA CGM and PIL will also receive some new ships, according to Alphaliner. In addition, among the world's top 12 liner companies, four companies do not have any new ships to deliver this year, namely Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Star Line and Wan Hai Line.
