Fincantieri receives another order for two eco-friendly cruise ships from Viking Cruises

On June 21st, Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri announced that it had signed an order for two environmentally friendly cruise ships with Viking Cruises, expected to be delivered in 2028 and 2029, respectively.
Fincantieri did not disclose the specific shipping price, only stating that the value of the order is huge. According to Fincantieri's definition, this means that the total contract value ranges from 500 million to 1 billion euros (approximately RMB 3.88 billion to 7.76 billion).
It is understood that the ship belongs to a small cruise ship with a total tonnage of about 54300 tons, has 499 cabins, and can accommodate 998 guests. The new ship will be built in accordance with the latest environmental regulations and navigation regulations, and will be equipped with modern safety systems. In addition, the new ship will also adopt new technologies to develop environmentally friendly fuels and sustainable zero emission power generation systems.
Fincantieri said that this order confirmed the strong momentum of the comprehensive recovery of the cruise market, and the passenger traffic volume has recovered to the level before the outbreak of the COVID-19. At the same time, this also proves the stable and lasting cooperation between Fincantieri and Viking Cruises. The cooperation between the two sides began in 2012, and as of now, Fincantieri has built up to 20 cruise ships for Viking Cruises, including the exploration cruise ship built by Vard, a subsidiary of Fincantieri. Viking Cruises is also the single largest shipowner in Fincantieri's order volume.
It is understood that Viking Cruises is a corporate group headquartered in the United States and headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. It was founded in 1997 by a Nordic and Dutch consortium led by Torstein Hagen.
Initially, it purchased four Russian cruise ships and provided Russian inland cruise ship products to Europeans. Subsequently, the company gradually acquired multiple cruise ships and continued to position itself to serve the European market. In 2013, Viking Cruises tested ocean going cruise ships and established the Viking Ocean Cruises department. In the spring of 2015, the Viking Star began its maiden voyage and operated Baltic and Mediterranean routes.
"The latest order further consolidates our partnership with Viking Cruises and makes Fincantieri the preferred partner for shipowners when building ships suitable for current and future energy. Fincantieri and Viking Cruises are working together to lead the shipping industry to achieve net zero emissions," said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri
