3.7 billion yuan! Two shipyards have received orders for 5 container ships from Greek shipowners

Greek shipowner Danaos Corporation has ordered five methanol ready container ships from two domestic shipyards, with a total value of $509 million (approximately RMB 3.701 billion).
Among them, Dalian Shipbuilding has received four 9200TEU container ships, with plans to deliver three in 2027 and one in 2028. The other 8258TEU container ship was ordered by Yangtze River Shipbuilding, which is also Danaos' seventh similar ship ordered by Yangtze River Shipbuilding and is expected to be delivered in 2027; Like the first six ships, the latest seventh ship was also built by New Yangtze Shipbuilding.
Danaos did not disclose the single ship price, but there are reports that Dalian Shipbuilding's order ship price is $105 million per ship, which calculates the order ship price of Yangtze River Shipbuilding Industry to be $89 million.
As a reference, Clarkson's data shows that the current price for a new 10000/11000TEU traditional fuel container ship is 133 million US dollars, which is not much different from the 131 million US dollars in the same period last year.
Danaos introduced that the designs of these 5 ships have incorporated the latest ecological characteristics, using methanol fuel reservation design and equipped with open-loop desulfurization devices and shore power devices. The new ship will be built in accordance with the latest requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III emission standards and the Ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase III.
Along with the latest 5, the number of container ships under construction at Danaos has increased to 16, with 129819TEU. All new ships under construction have already secured multi-year lease agreements. It is expected to deliver an additional 3 ships within this year, 2 ships in 2025, 3 ships in 2026, 7 ships in 2027, and 1 ship in 2028.
It is understood that Danaos is currently one of the largest independent container ship owners in the world, with 70 container ships ranging from 2200TEU to 13100TEU, and has signed long-term ship leasing contracts with multiple leading consolidation companies. In addition, the company also owns 10 Cape of Good Hope bulk carriers.
In the second quarter of this year, Danaos successively received three new ships, including the 8010TEU container ships "Catherine C" and "Greenland" delivered by South Korean DH Shipbuilding, and the 7165TEU container ship "Interasia Accelerate" delivered by Dalian Shipbuilding Shanchuan Heavy Industry.
According to Clarkson's data, combined with Danaos' latest orders, Dalian Shipbuilding currently holds a total of 38 orders of 5.5997 million deadweight tons, including 2 floating production storage and unloading oil tankers (FPSOs), 1 refueling vessel, 1 shuttle oil tanker, 6 container ships, 13 oil tankers, and 15 175000 cubic meter LNG ships. The delivery date is scheduled for 2028.
New Yangtze Shipbuilding currently holds a total of 93 orders of 6.8896 million deadweight tons, including 54 oil tankers, 32 container ships, and 7 bulk carriers. The delivery date is scheduled for 2027.
