Veer collaborates with Fosen shipyard to build the world's first zero emission ocean going container ship

After a year, the "world's first" zero emission ocean going container ship developed by maritime startup Veer is about to begin construction.
Recently, Veer signed a letter of intent with Fosen shipyard in Germany to develop, construct, sell, and purchase two wind powered/hydrogen powered auxiliary container ships, which will be the world's first clean container ships for ocean voyages.
Veer introduced that its new fleet, which is "future oriented, fast, clean, and cost competitive," combines innovative hull shapes, Dynarig sails, and hydrogen fuel cells to improve speed and endurance. The design name of this type of ship is Design N º 1, which has been defined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as "absolutely zero emissions" and has a classification symbol for silent operation.
In terms of technical management, Veer will collaborate with Bernhard Schulte, a ship management company. In addition, the company has also held talks with FutureShips ship brokerage company and is discussing with multiple lessees to provide clean liner services from these two new ships starting from 2027.

It is reported that Veer's zero emission container ship project received principle approval (AiP) from the American Bureau of Shipping in October 2022. The company has also received a € 50 million letter of intent from Prow Capital in the Netherlands to provide funding for the design and construction of a new ship. At present, the company is undergoing Series A investment and financing.
