China Merchants Industry starts construction of 82000 ton bulk cargo bow ship for China Merchants Shipping

On August 12, 2024, the groundbreaking ceremony for the first production vessel "CM82000-1" (JLZ9230451) of the four 82000 ton Kamsarmax series bulk carriers ordered by China Merchants Shipping from China Merchants Industrial was held in Yizheng, Jiangsu. Zhang Jinti, Assistant General Manager of China Merchants Shipping and General Manager of Hong Kong Minghua, and Jiang Fuhai, Assistant General Manager of China Merchants Industry and General Manager of China Merchants Jinling Shipbuilding (Nanjing) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "China Merchants Jinling"), attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
The construction project of four 82000 ton Kamsa series bulk carriers is an important measure for China Merchants Shipping's bulk carrier fleet to build a professional grain transportation fleet and strengthen the maritime transportation capacity of grain. The smooth start of the project is a symbol of China Merchants Shipping and China Merchants Industry jointly serving the national situation and promoting the cooperation in green and economic ship construction to enter a new stage. In the future, both sides will continue to promote deep level exchanges and cooperation, jointly serving the needs of the country with what they can attract investment.
At the ceremony, both parties invited China Classification Society surveyors to inspect the steel plates, announce the results, and sign on site. Personnel from China Classification Society, on-site supervision team, Hong Kong Minghua, and China Merchants Jinling attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
It is reported that China Merchants Shipping ordered four 82000 ton bulk carriers from China Merchants Industrial Nanjing Jinling last year. The new ships are equipped with desulfurization towers and shaft generators, which will improve the structure and quality of the company's Panamax fleet. The delivery period is from the second half of 2025 to the end of 2026.
