Four vessels! Hangtong Shipbuilding wins order for multi-functional energy-assisting vessels from a British shipowner.
Recently, Sentinel Marine, a UK offshore vessel owner under Singapore's Cyan Renewables, announced that it has signed a 1+3 vessel construction contract for multifunctional energy support vessels with Jiangmen Hangtong Shipyard.
The first vessel in this series of new ships is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2027, increasing Sentinel Marine's fleet size to 15. The vessel adopts a DP2 dynamic positioning system, has a deadweight of 1,600 tons, 375 square meters of open deck space, and large capacity bottom storage space for fuel, drinking water, recovered oil, and monoethylene glycol (MEG).
The new vessel will be designed according to the UK B-class (A-option) Emergency Response Rescue Vessel (ERRV) standard, equipped with a high-speed rescue boat (FRC) and a hybrid auxiliary boat, and will comply with Dutch and Danish ERRV design specifications. The vessel can accommodate 37 to 47 people.
In addition to emergency response capabilities, the vessel's design also includes an optional personnel transfer gangway system, bottom cargo warehouse, and a battery hybrid propulsion system, adaptable to various mission needs, including offshore wind power, energy transition support, government services, carbon capture, and maritime security.
Rory Deans, CEO of Sentinel Marine, said: “This new multifunctional energy support vessel and its future sister vessels mark a significant step in realizing the vision of our 'Blue to Green' operational strategy. The new vessel will be the cornerstone of our transformation process in providing cleaner, cross-sectoral, and reliable maritime services.”
Keng Lin Lee, CEO of Cyan Renewables, noted: “Cyan is pleased to further solidify Sentinel Marine's reputation as a leading ERRV provider in the UK and owner of the youngest fleet in Europe through this investment in innovative multi-purpose support vessels. This investment aligns with Sentinel Marine and Cyan Renewables' shared commitment to sustainable innovation in maritime operations and will enhance the group's integrated capabilities across multiple offshore sectors.”
Official data shows that Sentinel Marine is a leading provider of offshore support vessels (OSV) and ERRVs, operating an advanced fleet of 14 modern, high-specification multifunctional vessels, providing professional services to clients in the North Sea and other regions.
It is understood that Cyan Renewables was established in September 2022 by Seraya Partners, a Singapore-based infrastructure management company. It is the world's first pure-play offshore wind farm vessel operator, serving the rapidly growing offshore wind farm industry in Asia. Cyan owns, operates, and leases vessels across the entire offshore wind farm value chain, including crew transfer vessels (CTV), service operation vessels (SOV), and wind turbine installation vessels (WTIV). In January 2024, Cyan announced the acquisition of a 75% stake in the UK's Sentinel Marine to strengthen Cyan's position in the UK offshore wind market and increase its local market share.
Including the latest order, Clarkson's data shows that Hangtong Shipyard currently has a total order book of 28 vessels with a deadweight of 117,800 tons, including 6 AHTS, 10 chemical tankers, 6 container ships, 2 LPG carriers, 1 ERRV, 1 heavy-lift vessel, 1 maintenance vessel, and 1 multi-purpose supply vessel (MSV), with delivery dates extending to 2027.
