Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. starts construction on the first 5500-car dual-fuel vehicle carrier for EPS.
On the morning of May 23, at 10 am, the groundbreaking ceremony for the first vessel in the series of 5500-car LNG dual-fuel Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) (MW468-1), built by Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. for Singapore's Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), was held as scheduled at the company.
At the ceremony, witnessed by Mr. Kim youngil, EPS site manager; Mr. Kwon from DNV (Det Norske Veritas); Mr. Lin Qin, Chairman of Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd.; Mr. Wang Neng Hua, General Manager; Mr. Liu Haitzhen, Deputy General Manager; and other relevant leaders, Mr. Kim youngil, EPS site manager, initiated the groundbreaking ceremony, officially commencing the construction of the vessel.
The MW468-1 vessel, built by Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd., is the first vessel in a series of 5500-car LNG dual-fuel PCTCs. The vessel is classed by DNV, with an overall length of 190 meters, a length between perpendiculars of 185.8 meters, a depth of 35.6 meters, a design draft of 8.3 meters, and a maximum draft of 9.5 meters. It is designed for global service (excluding polar waters) and can carry cars, trucks, buses, lorries, MAFI roll-on/roll-off trailers, and heavy lift (H&H) roll-on/roll-off cargo, as well as new energy vehicles and IMDG-packaged dangerous goods. Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) can be loaded on decks 9, 10, and 11. The propulsion system consists of an FPP, shafting, and a dual-fuel high-pressure main engine.
This series of vessels marks the second collaboration between Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. and EPS, following the 2900TEU series of container ships. As Xiamen Shipbuilding's flagship vessel type, the commencement of construction of the MW468-1 vessel is both a testament to EPS's confidence in the company's shipbuilding technology and PCTC construction experience, and a testament to the concerted efforts of Xiamen Shipbuilding's employees. The good and stable cooperative relationship between the two parties will lay a solid foundation for the smooth progress of subsequent shipbuilding.
