On June 16, the second vessel in a series of 14,000 TEU container ships built by Jiangnan Shipyard for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and supervised by BoYa International Shipping Co., Ltd., the "MSC TANZANIA" (H2790), was named and delivered.
Attending the ceremony were Sun Hao, leader of the MSC supervision team; Ye Yun, senior manager of the ship operation department of Victory MSC (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.; Wang Xueqiang, general manager of BoYa International Shipping's ship management department; Yan Qing, manager of the on-site supervision team; Wang Guzheng, vice president of Lloyd's Greater China region; Zheng Mingsheng, deputy general manager of the ship and ocean business department of China Shipbuilding Trading Company; and Hu Hongyu, deputy general manager of Jiangnan Shipyard. Ma Liping served as the godmother for the naming ceremony.
Hu Hongyu stated: "Not long ago, Mediterranean Shipping Company became the first company globally to own 900 ships, and its expansion towards 1000 reshapes the global shipping landscape. Jiangnan Shipyard always adheres to the principles of customer first and quality first. Through technological innovation and management improvements, we shorten construction cycles and provide more competitive delivery times. Previously, Jiangnan Shipyard has delivered multiple high-quality vessels to Mediterranean Shipping Company. Today's delivery will further support Mediterranean Shipping Company's development. We look forward to deepening strategic cooperation in the future, working together to explore cutting-edge fields such as green ships and intelligent shipping, and jointly opening a new chapter in the development of the shipping industry."

This vessel is the first container ship built by Jiangnan Shipyard to achieve full-ship simulated container stacking and lashing. During the mooring test, relying on the intelligent mooring platform, it effectively promoted the comprehensive control of mooring test opinions. The platform is currently undergoing continuous development and improvement, which will further help improve construction efficiency and enhance shipowner satisfaction. This ship further consolidated the two-and-a-half-month dock construction cycle for conventional fuel container ships and, based on the good sea trial status, was delivered half a month ahead of schedule.
It is understood that last July, BoYa International Shipping reached an agreement with Mediterranean Shipping Company to resell two 14,000 TEU container ships (H2789 and H2790) ordered from Jiangnan Shipyard in 2022 to two companies controlled by Mediterranean Shipping Company. The sale price was approximately US$330 million, equivalent to US$165 million per ship, significantly higher than the US$140 million unit price BoYa International Shipping paid in 2022.
These two 14,000 TEU container ships are among Jiangnan Shipyard's main products, a new type of highly efficient, green, and energy-saving ultra-large container ship independently researched and designed by the Jiangnan Research Institute. The first ship, "MSC ANGOLA" (H2789), was delivered in April this year.
