COSCO Shipping Bulk successfully completed its first multi-purpose vessel grain voyage
On May 19, the multipurpose vessel "CSPC HORIZON," fully loaded with Brazilian soybeans, departed from Santos Port, Brazil. After a 39-day voyage, the vessel successfully arrived at Rizhao Port, the first unloading port, on June 29. On July 8, the vessel successfully completed its voyage at Zhenjiang Port. The soybeans, upon inspection, met quality standards, earning high praise from the client and providing valuable experience for future business development.
This voyage marked COSCO SHIPPING Lines' first multipurpose vessel grain voyage using a chartered vessel. All parties involved placed high importance on the mission and collaborated efficiently. Through this voyage, potential issues with multipurpose vessels carrying grain cargo were identified and resolved, fully validating the vessel's suitability and providing guidance for further optimizing the design of new vessels. This is significant for enhancing professional grain transportation capabilities and ensuring supply chain stability.
COSCO SHIPPING Lines and COSCO SHIPPING Special Transport worked closely together, seamlessly coordinating the vessel and voyage tasks. This fully leveraged the group's cross-segment synergy, coordinating vessels, cargo, personnel, and emergency resources. While meeting the client's customized transportation needs, it also provided practical verification of the use of multipurpose vessels for grain transport.
Through this practice, the company identified and resolved specific operational issues related to multipurpose vessels, including mooring at Brazilian grain terminals, adjustments to loading and unloading processes, cargo storage requirements, and ventilation and dehumidification solutions. This ensured that all inspections of the soybeans upon arrival met standards, fully verifying the suitability and reliability of multipurpose vessels for transporting grain cargo.
Based on the issues identified during the voyage, the company proposed nine technical optimization measures in four areas: ventilation and dehumidification system design, temperature/humidity monitoring accuracy, hatch safety, and watertight integrity of the hatches. This provides precise guidance for upgrading new vessels, driving continuous improvement in the company's competitiveness in the multipurpose grain vessel market.
