Taizhou's largest! Wanlong Shipbuilding & Heavy Industry's first Aframax oil tanker, Ji Shui
On October 10, the 115,000-ton Aframax tanker "OASIS," built by Wulong Shipbuilding & Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., was successfully launched.
This vessel not only became the largest ship locally built in Taizhou, thanks to its record-breaking tonnage, but also ascended to the title of "the world's largest ship launched using the airbag method," setting a new industry benchmark. The successful launch of this ship has instantly filled the gap in Taizhou’s capability for building large oil tankers, marking a significant breakthrough in the local shipbuilding industry—and injecting powerful new momentum into Taizhou’s high-quality marine economic development.
As a high-end vessel integrating advanced technology with green principles, the "OASIS" was independently designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI), classed by China Classification Society, and capable of navigating freely in all international waters. The ship boasts an overall length of 249.90 meters, a molded breadth of 44 meters, and a molded depth of 21.5 meters, with a design draft of 13.6 meters. It can carry a deadweight of up to 115,000 tons and is designed for a cruising speed of 14 knots, while its cargo hold capacity easily accommodates more than 800,000 barrels of refined oil or crude oil.
The vessel is a green ship design that seamlessly integrates environmental protection, energy efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Through a combination of measures—including comprehensive hydrodynamic performance optimization, the installation of hydrodynamic energy-saving ducts and anti-rolling fins, as well as optimized main engine selection—SDARI has significantly enhanced the ship’s energy efficiency. As a result, the vessel meets the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Phase III EEDI requirements, while its nitrogen oxide emissions comply with IMO Tier III standards. Additionally, the ship is specially equipped with an Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS desulfurization system), effectively reducing sulfur oxide emissions and ensuring that "efficient operation" and "environmental sustainability" go hand in hand.
Aframax tankers are widely used in the Black Sea basin, the North Sea, the Caribbean Sea, the China Sea, and the Mediterranean. With their outstanding performance and excellent cargo-carrying capacity, they have earned the trust and admiration of numerous industry clients.
The successful construction of "OASIS" has enabled Wulong Shipbuilding & Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. to accumulate invaluable experience in building large-scale vessels. Moving forward, Wulong Shipbuilding will seize this opportunity to further deepen its focus on core technologies, strengthen its competitive edge, and steadfastly pursue a high-quality development path that is green, efficient, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly. In doing so, the company will contribute even more of its expertise to Taizhou’s accelerated efforts in building a modern maritime city and driving the quality upgrade of its ocean-based economy.
