Changhong International Commences Construction on Its 8th 10,300-TEU Dual-Fuel Container Ship
At 8:58 a.m. on October 13, the eighth 10,300-TEU dual-fuel LNG-powered container ship, CHB2044—built by Changhong International for Mediterranean Shipping Company—was successfully ignited and officially launched in the intelligent workshop, marking the start of its segment-based construction phase. Representatives from the shipowner’s site office, the French classification society, and Changhong International’s project team jointly witnessed this significant milestone.
This project involves a total of 10 vessels, jointly developed and designed by CIMC Ocean Engineering Research Institute (CIMC ORIC) and Changhong International. These are next-generation, advanced, eco-friendly container ships capable of carrying over 10,000 TEUs. Each vessel will measure approximately 300 meters in length and 45.6 meters in breadth, with a design speed of 20 knots. The first ship to commence construction has already been classed by the French Bureau Veritas. Equipped with an innovative LNG dual-fuel propulsion system, these vessels can significantly reduce emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and carbon dioxide (CO₂), directly aligning with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) ambitious emission reduction targets. This cutting-edge technology provides robust support for the global shipping industry’s transition toward greener operations.
The successive commencement of construction on multi-type 10,000-container ships highlights Changhong International's exceptionally high shipbuilding efficiency and outstanding project execution capabilities.
