The 49,400-ton MR-type oil tanker built by Weihai Wuchuan has been successfully placed on the shipyard’s slipway.
On December 26, the 49,400-dwt IMO II product oil/chemical tanker (W2412), built by Wuhu Shipyard for a German shipowner, was successfully placed on the slipway at Weihai Wuchuan. With this milestone, the vessel has officially entered the stage of outfitting and assembly on the slipway. Shipowner Zhang Rongsheng, DNV surveyor representatives, and relevant leaders including Qin Liming, General Manager of Weihai Wuchuan, and Liu Mingming, Assistant to the General Manager, all attended and witnessed the event.
The vessel has a total length of 182.75 meters, a molded breadth of 32.2 meters, and a molded depth of 19.1 meters, with a deadweight capacity of 49,400 tons. It is equipped with one main engine, three main generating sets, and one shaft-driven generator, providing a stable power supply to all onboard equipment and ensuring ample propulsion and reliable performance throughout the vessel’s operation. It is also worth noting that, in terms of eco-friendly design, Weihai Wuchuan actively embraces the global trend toward green shipping and strictly adheres to international environmental standards. The vessel features nine plus one cargo oil tanks and is fitted with advanced desulfurization towers. This not only optimizes the loading and transportation processes but also effectively reduces energy consumption.
Relying on its accumulated experience in building multiple vessels, Weihai Wuchuan has steadily matured in shipbuilding. On the one hand, every stage—from conceptual design and structural calculations to steel pre-processing and block/section assembly—is governed by standardized procedures and subject to rigorous quality control, ensuring that the construction process is safe, efficient, and fully controllable. On the other hand, collaboration among various departments has become increasingly smooth and well-coordinated; when faced with challenges, departments communicate promptly and resolve issues efficiently, making every effort to ensure the smooth progress of the project. It is precisely this solid practical foundation and excellent team collaboration that have provided strong support for the successful launching of the vessel onto the slipway and for subsequent construction phases.
The successful launching of this 49,400-ton MR-type oil tanker marks a significant achievement for Weihai Wuchuan as it enters the final sprint of the year, and also adds a vibrant highlight to the company’s overall production and operational performance for the entire year. Standing at the juncture between the year’s conclusion and the dawn of a new journey, Weihai Wuchuan will remain true to its original aspiration of crafting ships with meticulous craftsmanship, continue to deepen its expertise in shipbuilding, persistently overcome technical challenges, and steadily advance toward the goal of building higher-quality, more efficient vessels, thus energetically writing a brand-new chapter in the company’s development.
