Sumeda Shipbuilding’s two 3.0‑version Crown 63 bulk carriers were named on the same day.
On July 7, New Ocean Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of SUMEC Corporation, held a successful naming ceremony for two Crown 63 bulk carriers—“OCEAN WEST” (NDY1296) and “OCEAN NORTH” (NDY1297)—built for AVIC International Financial Leasing Co., Ltd.
Hu Hai, Deputy General Manager of AVIC Leasing; Qin Yubao, Nanjing Regional Manager of DNV; Xu Gang, Vice Chairman of Sumida Shipbuilding; Xu Bin, General Manager of Sumida Shipbuilding; Zhang Yunhui, Assistant to the General Manager of Sumida Shipbuilding; along with relevant personnel from both sides, attended the event.
Xu Gang stated that the vessels named this time are part of a series built by Sumeda Shipbuilding for AVIC Leasing, fully demonstrating AVIC Leasing’s recognition of the Crown 63 vessel type and the high construction quality of Xinyang Shipbuilding. Moving forward, Sumeda Shipbuilding will continue to optimize the ships’ energy efficiency and environmental performance, advance the application of digital technologies in ship design and construction, and contribute Sumeda’s expertise to the sustainable development of its shipowners.
Hu Hai highly commended the project’s high‑quality construction achievements and reviewed the long-standing cooperation between the two parties. He noted that, building on their solid strategic partnership, they have laid a strong foundation for further deepening industrial synergy and expanding areas of collaboration, and that they will continue to work hand in hand to deepen their engagement in the shipping industry and create shared value and mutual success.
The two 3.0‑version Crown 63 bulk carriers named on this occasion comply with the EEDI Phase III and Tier III emission standards, and will subsequently be operated by Sumeda Shipping. This dual‑vessel naming ceremony represents a flagship example of Sumeda Shipbuilding’s “shipbuilding plus shipping” dual‑engine strategy, and marks an important milestone in the strategic cooperation between the two parties.
