Bulgarian shipowner Navibulgar returns to Yangtze River Shipbuilding to add 6 bulk carriers, with a total value of over 200 million US dollars (approximately 1.45 billion yuan).
It is reported that this batch of new ship orders was signed earlier this year, including three 45000 deadweight ton bulk carriers with hull numbers YZJ2024-1657, 1658, and 1669, which will be delivered in 2027; In addition, three 32000 deadweight ton bulk carriers with hull numbers YZJ2044-1631, 1632, and 1633 will be delivered in 2026.
Ship brokers estimate that Navibulgar's latest order costs at least $34 million per vessel. The construction of the new ship will comply with the requirements of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase III and the Tier III nitrogen oxide emission standards of the International Maritime Organization.
As a reference, Clarkson's data shows that the current cost of a new 38000-4200 deadweight ton bulk carrier is $30.5 million, an increase of 2% compared to $30 million in the same period last year.
Including the latest orders, Navibulgar currently has 9 bulk carriers ordered by Yangtze River Shipping Industry. Previously in 2022, Navibulgar had ordered three 32000 deadweight ton bulk carriers with hull numbers YZJ2022-1450, 1451, and 1452. At that time, the cost of each new ship was $32 million, and it was expected to be delivered next year.
It is reported that the 32000 deadweight ton large lake type bulk carrier in this series has a length of 189.98 meters, a width of 23.70 meters, a depth of 14.60 meters, a design draft of 10.00 meters, and a structural draft of 10.50 meters. This type of ship not only meets the requirements for navigation in the five Great Lakes regions of North America and the St. Lawrence Canal, but also meets the latest international pollution prevention requirements for SOx, NOx and other emission indicators, achieving the largest loading capacity among large lake bulk carriers of the same type and class, meeting the extreme comfort requirements of the Maltese flag country for crew, superior maneuverability, adopting frequency conversion technology for energy saving, and the entire cargo hold can be loaded with dangerous goods. The deck and hatch also meet the requirements for dangerous goods loading. This type of ship belongs to the new generation of large lake bulk carriers that are energy-saving, emission reducing, green and environmentally friendly, with better usage and performance.
In addition, Navibulgar has also ordered 10 45000 deadweight ton bulk carriers from Yangtze River Shipbuilding Industry, with the first 6 delivered in 2019-2020 and the remaining 4 delivered in 2024. This series of ships is designed by BLUETECH, a Finnish company, with a total length of 190 meters, a structural draft of 10.8 meters, a service speed of 14 knots, and meets the requirements of 1C ice class to ensure the strength required for navigation in ice areas near the Baltic Sea, the Azov Sea, and Canada. It is also equipped with desulfurization towers and energy-saving devices, which are more energy-efficient, efficient, and environmentally friendly than similar flexible bulk carriers.
It is understood that as an old customer of Yangtze River Shipbuilding Industry, Navibulgar is the largest flexible bulk carrier operating company in Europe with a history of over 130 years. According to official website data, the company's fleet currently owns and operates 33 bulk carriers with a deadweight tonnage ranging from 21500 to 45500 deadweight tons. Including the latest orders, all 18 bulk carriers ordered by the company since 2021 have been taken over by Yangtze River Shipbuilding, with a total value of approximately 540 million US dollars (about 3.925 billion yuan).
According to the third quarter operating performance report released by Yangtze River Shipbuilding on November 7th, the company has received a total of 98 new orders this year, including 54 container ships, 21 oil tankers, 16 liquefied gas carriers, and 7 bulk carriers, with a total value of 11.64 billion US dollars (approximately 83.127 billion yuan), achieving 259% of the annual order target of 4.5 billion US dollars.
As of November 7th, Yangtze River Shipbuilding Group has reached a new high in holding orders, reaching 224 ships with a CGT of 8.61 million and a total value of 22.14 billion US dollars (approximately 158.113 billion yuan), an increase of 53% compared to 14.48 billion US dollars at the end of 2023. Among them, green ships account for about 75% of the total amount of handheld orders.
