Dongfang Overseas collaborates with partners to launch the maiden voyage of biofuels

Dongfang Overseas Container Shipping Co., Ltd. ("Dongfang Overseas") collaborates with partners to carry out low-carbon shipping, using cleaner fuels to reduce carbon emissions in the supply chain. With the participation of multiple partners such as IKEA and Kyocera, the first flight began in early August.
The fuel used for this voyage is a B24 biofuel mixture, which is made by mixing waste edible oil methyl ester certified by ISCC with ultra-low sulfur fuel oil. Replacing fossil fuels with biofuels can reduce carbon emissions from shipping and is considered a feasible transitional solution in achieving long-term decarbonization goals. The carbon emissions saved from this voyage will be attributed to the relevant partners, reducing the carbon footprint of the cargo.
Partners participating in this low-carbon voyage will receive a green certificate as a credible proof of the carbon emissions saved by using biofuels on this voyage. The entire process is verified and supported by the non-profit blockchain alliance Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN), and the calculation and allocation of carbon emission savings are tracked by blockchain, with traceable and unchangeable records. Dongfang Overseas adopts a full lifecycle emission method to comprehensively measure the carbon emissions generated from fuel production to ship operation consumption.
Starting from 2023, Orient Overseas will use biofuels on some of its ships as part of the company's strategy to promote decarbonization transformation. Joining forces with partners to promote low-carbon shipping using biofuels not only further demonstrates the company's commitment to decarbonizing the shipping industry, but also demonstrates its determination to provide first-class shipping services to customers. Dongfang Overseas is committed to working with partners to build a green maritime supply chain, developing sustainable shipping solutions based on their needs and environmental goals, and working together with partners to move towards the goal of decarbonizing maritime transport.
Xu Weiguo, Director of the Trade Department of Dongfang Overseas Airlines, said, "The low emission shipping promoted together with our partners is undoubtedly a very important milestone in Dongfang Overseas's environmental and sustainable development process, which will help us and our partners move forward towards our respective decarbonization roadmaps. I am grateful for the participation of partners such as IKEA and Kyocera in this maiden voyage and their trust and support for Dongfang Overseas. At the same time, we eagerly look forward to carrying out longer-term sustainable development cooperation with all partners and stakeholders to reduce emissions in the supply chain and create a greener future together
