Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd. receives another order for LNG dual-fuel container ships from a German shipowner
Following its initial order at the beginning of the year, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) has received another order for dual-fuel container ships from German ship owner Peter Dohle Schiffahrts.
According to TradeWinds, Peter Dohle has confirmed the execution of an optional order at GSI, adding two LNG dual-fuel 8400TEU new Panamax container ships. Including this latest order, the company currently has orders for five such vessels at GSI, which will be delivered between 2027 and 2028. The Price of each ship is approximately US$120 million to US$125 million, with a total of US$600 million to US$625 million (approximately RMB 4.356 billion to RMB 4.538 billion) for the five new vessels.
For reference, Clarkson's data shows that the Price of a new LNG dual-fuel 8500/9500TEU container ship is currently around US$130 million, an increase of approximately 10% compared to US$118.5 million in the same period last year.
It is understood that Peter Dohle is a family-owned enterprise with over 60 years of history in the shipping industry, headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, and enjoys a high reputation in the shipping industry. Website data shows that Peter Dohle operates a large fleet, controlling the world's largest liner container fleet, with approximately 307 highly modern vessels. Vessel Specification ranges from 300TEU to 14000TEU. All vessels meet the requirements of today's market, such as ultra-low-speed navigation and high refrigeration capacity. In addition, the company also specifically manages and operates a fleet of 38 bulk carriers with capacities ranging from 38,000 to 175,000 deadweight tons.
Last June, Peter Dohle ended a 10-year order drought, placing an order with Hudong-Zhonghua for four 14,000TEU methanol fuel-ready large container ships. This order was also Hudong-Zhonghua's first container ship order since 2022. These four new container ships are expected to be delivered in 2026 and 2027 and will be operated by Emirates Shipping Line. Earlier this year, the company signed an order for 3+2 LNG dual-fuel container ships with GSI.
For GSI, the Peter Dohle order marks its resumption of container ship orders since 2021 and is its first construction of LNG dual-fuel container ships. GSI has always mainly built tankers, semi-submersible heavy-lift vessels, and bulk carriers, until it entered the container ship field for the first time in 2021 with a large order for 16,000TEU container ships from Mediterranean Shipping Company.
Earlier this year, GSI also received an order for five 24,000TEU, the world's largest LNG dual-fuel container ships, from Evergreen Marine, marking its first foray into the construction market for ultra-large container ships exceeding 20,000 TEU.
Currently, GSI's backlog mainly consists of car carriers and refined oil/chemical product carriers. Excluding the latest order, Clarkson's data shows that GSI currently has a backlog of 80 vessels totaling 4.115 million deadweight tons, including 48 tankers, 25 car carriers, four RoRo passenger ships, two container ships, and one non-cargo vessel, with delivery dates extending to 2028.
