Guangzhou Shipyard International's first LNG dual-fuel oil tanker built for EPS is launched
On July 27, the first 111,000-ton LNG dual-fuel LR2 product tanker built by Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group, for Singapore's Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), was floated out, marking a smooth transition to the wharf commissioning phase of its construction.
A total of eight vessels are planned for this series. They adopt GSI's independently developed new generation LNG dual-fuel LR2 tanker design. Each vessel is 250 meters long, 44 meters wide, with a deadweight of 111,000 tons. They are powered by LNG dual fuel, meeting the latest IMO environmental standards.
In 2022, GSI delivered the world's first LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tanker to EPS. The following year, they signed a contract for two more of the same type. This series of eight vessels represents another batch of green energy ships ordered by EPS from GSI, which will help the company update its alternative clean energy vessels and inject new vitality into the development of green shipping.
During the construction of this vessel, the project team innovatively applied the "three zeros, six closures" management model to ensure the integrity of key areas such as the superstructure rooms and the wheelhouse, setting a new benchmark for similar vessel types upon float-out. The fore-body section installation in the outer area was completed ahead of schedule, and the ballast tank coating and cargo tank special coating fully met the standards; multiple systems such as the main generator and boiler in the engine room completed joint commissioning, and the main engine lubricating oil serial oiling was completed; the superstructure area achieved "lights-on" throughout the ship, and the furniture in rooms above the second floor completed pre-acceptance inspection; the fire alarm system started commissioning ahead of schedule. The project team achieved efficient construction through process optimization and close collaboration with the ship owner and classification society.
The vessel's float-out received high praise from the ship owner and classification society, fully demonstrating GSI's construction capabilities. The vessel achieved benchmark integrity across all areas, innovative and efficient special coating technology, advanced multi-system commissioning, and quality improvement through management innovation. Currently, the project team is working hard to advance equipment mooring and commissioning, striving towards the high-quality completion and delivery of the vessel.
