Guangzhou Shipbuilding International Launches the Second ASP Methanol Dual-Fuel Oil Tanker
During the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday period, Guangzhou Shipyard International, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, once again delivered outstanding news—on October 8, the second 50,000-ton methanol dual-fuel chemical/product oil tanker built for ASP Shipping Company was successfully launched, marking a practical achievement that honors National Day.
Following the successful launch of the lead vessel in this series at the end of September, just days later, the second "sister ship" was once again completed and launched—demonstrating Guangzhou Shipyard International's exceptional efficiency in organizing MR-type oil tanker construction, as well as its world-class lean management capabilities. This achievement further highlights the company’s ability to maintain a "short, flat, and fast" operational rhythm. During the construction of this series, the project team successfully overcame the challenging task of simultaneously building two vessels on the same platform line, enabling continuous acceleration and enhanced efficiency in shipbuilding.
Although the vessel was significantly affected by frequent typhoons and adverse weather conditions during construction, the project team refused to wait for external assistance and instead tackled challenges head-on. While meticulously implementing typhoon and flood prevention measures, they also strategically adjusted the work schedule—seeking efficiency from management and seizing every opportunity to meet critical milestones. Thanks to precise planning, the platform successfully achieved a series of key milestones during the construction phase, including boiler ignition, generator load testing, and the "lights-on, white visibility" stage for the superstructure—laying a solid foundation for subsequent commissioning activities.
